How to install Sophos Anti-Virus / Remote Update on a Windows system
The University of Arizona has purchased a
site license so that
faculty, staff, and students may run Sophos Anti-Virus and
Remote Update,
both on campus and at home, at no additional charge.
Installing Sophos:
- Go to sitelicense.arizona.edu/sophos
and follow the download link.
You will be asked to fill out a form certifying that you are
associated with The University of Arizona.
- Next choose your operating system on the left side.
- You will then have to choose between two different download links
at the top of the screen: one link authenticates you simply
by requiring you to be on-campus, while the other link authenticates
you by requiring you to enter your
UA NetID.
It doesn't matter which link you follow, just so long as you
eventually download the Sophos Installer.
- Finally, follow their link to the Quickstart Install Guide, and now
carefully follow those instructions.
- (Note: If you just run through the Installer without making any
changes, contrary to the instructions in the Quickstart Install Guide, then your
Sophos will not disinfect files, and it will not
automatically update to the latest version.)
Ensuring that Sophos is running and up-to-date
After following the installation steps given above
(especially the separate steps from the Quickstart Install Guide),
Sophos will
periodically update itself, assuming you are connected to the
internet; otherwise, the Sophos icon in the lower-right corner
of your screen will indicate a failure, and
you should manually force an immediate update by double-clicking the
Sophos icon as soon as network connectivity is re-established.
